About this Opportunity
Â
Women’s Storybook Project of Texas connects children to their incarcerated mothers through the joy of literature. The primary goal of WSP is to reduce the rate of re-incarceration among incarcerated mothers by strengthening the mother- child bond through literature. This literature project requires volunteers to travel to Texas female prisons to record incarcerated mothers as they read stories to their children. The recordings provide a chance for children to hear their mother’s voice while they are away. Connecting the children and mothers helps provide a reason for the mothers to work hard not to return to prison.
Â
We are looking for dedicated volunteers to serve mothers in Downtown Houston and Dayton area. A volunteer must be a female of 18 years and above.
Once trained volunteers are asked to sign up and volunteer at least twice a year.
Â
Volunteering with the Women's Storybook Project offers a unique chance to empower incarcerated mothers and nurture family bonds through the magic of storytelling.
Join us in this important mission to create positive change and support families in need.
